The In your face Boston Healer who flipped the script: A Chicken and a Hug in Taipei
What does a chicken and a hug have to do with healing? Discover how an in your face Boston Irish healer defied expectations and sparked transformation through simplicity in Taipei.
Master Brian Collins performing a Chi Gong demo in 1996 so when you say “That’s Bullshit”.. here is some proof for ya, that’s me right there above as a very young man showing my Chi Gong chops in Guangzhou China…..
There are moments in life when ego tries to stand in the way of true service—and it always reveals the true nature of a person.
In 1996, I was invited to Taipei and Mainland China as part of a cultural exchange highlighting Qi Gong and energy medicine. I didn’t go as a star or a master—I went as a humble practitioner open to whatever experience the universe had in store for me. At the time, I was a MUCH younger man, deep in intensive training in Chi Gong, Hawaiian Spirituality and Filipino Martial Arts and was just starting to fully understand how spiritual energy could move through the body in real-time to alter time and space.
At a Taipei health fair, locals from the mountain regions came into the big city hoping for help for chronic issues. Many of them had never received proper care, relying mostly on the strength of their own will. I started casually working with people at the fair—not as part of a performance or any main stage—just a few quick energy sessions to ease pain and bring alignment where I could.
👉 Then it happened.
Someone experienced instant relief after seeing me.
Then another and another….
A small line then formed to have me aid them.
…TIt quickly became a crowd.
Suddenly, people were stepping out of the “official” healing line and forming a separate one… for me—the gasp! Lo fan? (foreigner). The “Master” we were traveling with was not amused at this at all. His pride had been punctured by something he couldn’t control: pure, intention-based energy transfer. He had the titles. He had the spotlight, but….
But I had something different: presence, purpose, and permission.
And the people around me felt the chi as well.
One elderly man who had come down from the mountains shuffled toward me.
He’d carried a severe farming neck injury for years—something that had made it hard to sleep, eat, and live. After a brief five-minute session, the life long pain was gone completely. His eyes widened. He looked around, unsure if it was a trick.
But it wasn’t.
He returned about an hour later, teary-eyed, and offered me the most meaningful gift he could find: a live chicken from his village that he brought to sell.
That was his currency of gratitude.
I smiled, bowed, and told him it was 100% free and just asked him for a hug for payment. He looked up at the large white man who had just helped him, tears now streaking his face, and embraced me with the full energy of his ancestors behind him and offered a genuine hug. And I knew in that moment—I wasn’t there to impress or to perform.
I was there to shake things up, me, the unexpected Lo Fan Chi Gong Master
A white guy with this ability? Who wasn’t greedy or an obnoxious jerk?
I was there to unlock my true self.
This moment—chicken and all—remains one of the most honest expressions of what true healing is and the pure gratitude someone showed me for simply being me. Sure after this trip, I went on in my multi-decade career to do things like curing the blind and aiding countless infertile women in having children, life long migraine cures in 1 touch, etc, etc, etc, blah blah blah so many “miracles”…. but I also saw that some clients expected me to cure them, in fact some demanded and treated me as their personal energy slave.
But I have learned MUCH since my time at my former brick and mortar Newbury Street office in Boston and well, those who demanded and expected a slave? well are still who they are, lost deep inside and well, they will eventually meet whatever they believe in and discuss it with that/them/whatever.
It is not about the taking the spotlight on the stage.
It’s not about the sacred robe or special hat.
It’s not about the title,
Its not the wireless face mic to tower over and scream at people your philosophy
Its not about inner demand, manipulation to acquire or fear energy guiding you
It’s about understanding your gravitational connection.
At Life in Synergy, this is how we still operate (roll).

Navigating Disconnection: Understanding Our Interconnected Reality
If recent Political events have left you feeling detached or disillusioned, or even if you're in high spirits, there’s value in exploring perspectives beyond our own as “different,” rather than “wrong.” This shift isn’t about invalidating our emotions but rather expanding our understanding.
Let’s begin with an essential truth: we all share this single, fragile planet. Regardless of where we stand, we all navigate a tangled web of personal emotions, biochemical processes, and internal energies that fuel our actions and reactions. No one—not even the most ambitious among us—has the luxury of relocating to a different world simply because they find their fellow inhabitants difficult. Even hypothetically, what chance would a new society have if it carried unresolved legacies like ego, racism, sexism, and the persistent urge for control?
Likely, the cycle of conflict would follow us wherever we go.
As it stands, we’re a species governed by millennia of repetitive patterns, cycling through the same historical themes. We see global divides in 2024 that resonate with those of 1900, 1800, or 500. Despite immense advances in technology and society, these underlying currents of division remain hauntingly unchanged.
In many ways, the human mind—our most potent tool, capable of inventing everything from electric lights to digital marvels—still relies on a primitive “filter.” This mental filter, which automatically categorizes people by characteristics such as race, gender, wealth, and social status, was our first attempt at making sense of the world. It acts like a camera filter on our phones, coloring every interaction before we even engage. With this filter, we slot people into boxes, drawing on preconceptions we’ve absorbed from countless external influences.
The paradox? The “other” we resist or judge is often a reflection of our own unresolved aspects.
When we feel triggered by someone else’s behavior or identity, it’s often because they mirror parts of ourselves we haven’t fully accepted or understood. This realization is jarring: the person we project our judgments onto is, in many ways, an extension of our own experience.
Human consciousness is thus a vessel carrying layers of history—emotional imprints from generations past that we unconsciously replay. The 21st century is simply the context; our bodies are processing the same fundamental impulses that may have driven us thousands of years ago. When we judge others, we reinforce the very divisions within ourselves.
So, the age-old principle remains: what we do to others, we ultimately do to ourselves. This isn’t a curse—it’s a chance to recognize that healing ourselves may be the most effective way to heal the divisions we see around us. In learning to honor this shared humanity, we allow for a kind of progress that can’t be measured in inventions or societal advancements alone.
Spirituality isn’t a 4 letter word or some bullshit…….it doesn’t have to be religious or cult like. It could be as basic as looking at someone you despise in your mind and taking a moment to see if any of what “they” are doing can also be a part of your very being and if so, how can you change it within yourself and join the whole cosmic quantum entanglement fun in the process?
