Thanksgiving day we have all heard it before, calories, fat grams and weight gain, enough already! Thanksgiving day is a time to share with family and loved ones. Instead of focusing on calories and fat grams let's talk about one of the true nutritional powerhouses of the Thanksgiving day meal the cranberry. Cranberries are grown right here in the United States. Cranberries contain vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants as well as other phytonutrients (naturally derived plant compounds). Research done by the medical community suggests that cranberries may help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and prevent urinary tract infections as well as reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. Newer research has also shown that cranberries may help reduce bacterial adhesion to teeth, thus reducing the risk of dental plaque. So on this holiday day remember to reach for the whole berry cranberry sauce, your body will thank you.

Why do I want you to ignore the rules? Because I really want you to be healthy, fit and successful. The problem with the rules is that we tend to feel inadequate when we cannot follow them and that leads to the why bother attitude. If you are not exercising right now, start with one class per month! I think that is an excellent goal. When you accomplish that for a few months you can move up to two.
